Development and Utilization of Emerging Technologies in Agriculture
The emerging technologies in this program encompass the use of innovative and advanced techniques and tools in the fields of bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and synthetic biology. These technologies aim to provide solutions that enhance performance and sustainable development in the agricultural sector. In this mega project, AI-based technologies such as machine learning and deep learning assist in decision-making processes within other projects at ABRII to improve crop characteristics. Synthetic biology technologies in this program are employed for designing and engineering RNAs and Cas9 proteins to produce transgenic/genome-edited plants, metabolite engineering to produce high value-added compounds, developing synthetic promoters and genetic regulators, and engineering beneficial microorganisms to produce recombinant macromolecules. Moreover, considering high-throughput sequencing technologies and the availability of digital sequence information at various omics levels in ongoing projects and collaborations with other national and international research institutes and centers, the main research objectives in the field of bioinformatics include the establishment of a genomic database, the standardization and storage of data and metadata, and supporting data for data mining and big data analysis.
