Identification of olive cultivars using molecular markers (DNA fingerprinting)

For identification of Iranian olive, 82 cultivars collected from six Iranian gene bank collections were analyzed using RAPD and SSR markers. The results indicated that most of the Iranian olive accessions were clustered in two main distinct groups. Two cultivars, Molasani and Kalamata were separate far from the other cultivars. Analyses of molecular variation revealed higher genetic variation within cultivars than among them. The most similarity was found between Khastavi/Dakal, Roghani/Leccino. 18 cultivars were identified by 18 specific markers.
