Analysis of genetic diversity in Iranian pistachio germplasm (Pistacia spp) using qualitative and quantitative characters and DNA markers

Within a cooperative research program coordinated by Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII), genetic diversity of Iranian Pistachio germplasm (Pistacia spp) are studied using qualitative and quantitative morphological traits and DNA markers. 240 genotypes, 80 cultivars and 160 wild types, originating in Iran are phenotyped and genotyped. The phenotypic data are recorded based on a common morphological descriptor. The genotypic data would be conducted according to 20 amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) primers pairs, 15 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and female marker sequence. The results of phenotypic and genotypic data are used to identify informative markers and to perform cluster analysis.
