ABRIIs Research Agenda

Judicious application of biotechnological tools holds great potential for the management of the major constraints to productivity of the main food crops in the agricultural systems. Developing stress tolerant crops is a world wide mission for alleviating poverty and providing world food security.

Conventional plant breeding, combined with improved agricultural practices and modern technologies, has contributed to dramatic crop improvements over the past 50 years and continue to provide future benefits. However, there is intense pressure to produce future improvements in crop quality and quantity as a result of population growth, social demands, health requirements, environmental stresses and ecological considerations.

For producing high yielding crop plants tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses and bioproducts for a sustainable agriculture the entire research activities of ABRII have been classified into six departments.
