Dr. Mehran Enayati Shariatpanahi, Associated Professor & Head of the Department of Tissue and Cell Culture of Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII) presented a report about “FAO/IAEA International Symposium on Plant Mutation Breeding and Biotechnology held on 27-31 August 2018, Vienna- Austria. Dr. Shariatpanahi participated in the FAO/IAEA International Symposium on Plant Mutation Breeding and Biotechnology while three of his articles entitled “Haploidy in Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Mutation Breeding for Striga Resistance”, “Enhancing the Efficiency of Mutation Breeding for Striga Resistance in Sorghum by Haploid Technology”, and “Amino Acids and Cycocel Application to Enhance Cucumber Haploid Embryogenesis with Gamma Irradiation Pollen” were accepted to be presented.

Since FAO and the IAEA sponsored the International Symposium on Induced Mutations in plants, which brought together around 500 participants from 82 Member States and nine international organizations/institutions, there have been many further technical innovations and new success stories have emerged.
