Ms. Michiko Enomoto from Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Visited ABRII on Monday 10th April, 2017. She was welcomed by Dr. Ghasem Hosseini Salekdeh, Deputy Director General for Research and Dr. Pejman Azadi, Deputy Director General for Technology of ABRII. Dr. Hosseini Salekdeh, gave a brief presentation on the capabilities, areas of research and the institute’s achievements.

     Declaring that Iran has been very successful in science and technology despite being imposed with heavy sanctions, Ms. Enomoto emphasized on the importance of biotechnology in eradicating major problems such as famine.

     Moreover, she asserted that the most practical way of commercializing the institute’s projects is to recognize the needs and requirements of the agricultural sectors and to base the scientific projects on those.

     APCTT is a regional institution of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) servicing the Asia-Pacific region. The center was established in 1977 in Bangalore, India. In 1993, the center moved to New Delhi, India. APCTT promotes transfer of technology to and from small- and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in Asia and the Pacific.

     According to APCTT official website, Ms. Michiko Enomoto joins APCTT from ECE where she worked in the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division, served as the Secretary of the Committee on Innovation, Competitiveness and Public-Private Partnerships and led the work on science, technology and innovation (STI) policy. Prior to that, she worked at UNCTAD in various areas, including in the Division for Services Infrastructure for Development and Trade Efficiency and the Division on Investment, Technology and Enterprise Development. She brings with her over 20 years of experience in the fields of STI, technology transfer, Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) development, ICT policy, e-Commerce, Foreign Direct Investment, and innovation policies with focus on environmentally sound technologies.
